Don't get why they cancelled that show. It was really good. At least they knew how to end it, rather than leave it on a fucking cliff hanger.

Ive always wondered how my city of Harrisburg PA would fare with Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, D.C. , and Baltimore gone. For one, we'd see a large population rise of refugees from those cities and surrounding areas. Second, Harrisburg would see a lot of new development like Cheyenne, WY did. During the attacks, Harrisburg may not have lost electricity due to our own power grid, but it would've suffered some harsh fallout from Baltimore/D.C. Cities I'm suprised were not hit include Omaha, Jacksonville, San Antonio, Austin, Nashville, Milwaukee, Las Vegas, Oklahoma City, and Portland.

I had forgotten all about that show.  I think I watched maybe half of the first season?  Don't remember why I lost interest in it though.

Very interesting map, though.  I see I'd be in the new country (?) of California, and my poor hometown got nuked.  Not surprising, though.

Whatever happened to this series? If I recall rightly, it only lasted two seasons. I saw only the first one.... part of me wants to see the rest, part of me says, waaaaay too politically-correct of a show to be bothered.

Always wondered how we in Columbia would have fared or if we just die from the massive fallout from Charlotte. We have tunnels under the city but I don't see it likely we could get everyone in them.

China could lead a UN-backed occupation force in Alaska for the purpose of seizing the bulk of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve as a way of collecting the vast debt we owe them in real life.

Curious: What is life like in the UN occupation zones?

This is a great map :) I've never seen much of Jericho (only the first part of the first episode) but it looks like an interesting show.

My only question is what are the occupation zones? No government to stabilize them, so the U.N. had to step in?

Either way, good job :)

Looks pretty close to what the show said it was like until the zones started to unifiy: California to the ASA, ISA and there other independent states going under the United States.

Is the UN just some cover for the Canadian to occupy and annex the areas least likely to have been nuked? And did the show give any reasons why New York, New Orleans, and Omaha weren't incinerated by at least a dozen ICBMs aimed at each?

:iconluckmann:

In the show, the cities aren't hit by ICBMs, but rather jury-rigged nuclear warheads hidden on site. The reason New York is not nuked is explained in the show - it was supposed to be.

Unfortunately, it wasn't.

Can you imagine how New York would far, even if not hit by a nuke? The resulting panic, millions trying to flee (including a large % of the police force) would result in almost immediate and widspread anarchy.
Add the EMP, fridges and water systems stops, so there would be starvation and water shortage within days, surrounding areas are overrune by refugees and quickly runs out of food.
It woukld kill a lot more than a dozen Hiroshima/Nagasaki type bombs, a death toll in the millions.

Does it give anything about the fallout from the rest of BosWash effecting them or why they nuked a small time test ground in Utah? And did the show actually have the United States degenerate to the point that the United Nations came along? Or was it their mystical powers that protected New York?

I don't suppose it has anything about Israel losing their milkcow?

In the show one of the main characters says that New York was spared because of all the security measures that were put in place in New York after the September 11th attacks.

Very little. And yeah, the US degenerated to the point where the UN intervenes. The thing that spared New York was a miscalculation on part of the conspirators.

Israel unfortunately does not feature. :(

Chemical and radiological retaliation at the very least, not accounting that Iran was a nuclear power in 2006 and still is today or that North Korea might decide to hit Tel-Aviv rather than an already hit west coast. Sucks to be them to say the least.

And quite frankly, if AZ WASN'T nuked (or even if it was, I guess), I see it as either proclaiming it's own republic, or at the very least, joining with the Republic of Texas. (In fact, at the rate things are going here, it may happen any day now, in REAL world!).
There is absolutely, positively, NO WAY that AZ would let the UN, of all entities, come in here.
And yes, Phoenix is spelled wrong, LOL. Good catch, Nanuq!
I do think, however, that all the northern edges of the US would be occupied by Canada. It would ensure their own safety, as well as for any altruistic reasons.
I also think that what's left of New England, plus NY, would want to be part of the "United States". We (I'm from MA) ARE part of the ORIGINAL United States.

PS - by 'canon', I mean shown on the show - it was either the map that they saw on the Chinese TV broadcast early on, or later on, when Hawkins was going over his map. Will have to go back and look.

hi, I thought it was canon that Phoenix or Tucson was nuked (or somewhere in between - maybe it landed in Casa Grande? Cause you show it as being St. George UT (isn't that where the nuke test in the 50's drifted the wrong way, into town and onto all the cows, too?).

On some maps, it's Phoenix that got nuked and in others, it's Tucson. However, where the nuke blew up on most maps is right in between the 2 cities so there is a chance that Phoenix got spared like the map above suggests.

I'm surprised that they didn't hit Salt Lake, or relocate government to there for that matter. It's farther from the blasts than Denver, and having been in both Cheyenne and Salt lake, I feel safe in saying that SL is much bigger.

One of the main characters worked for project red bell which was an effort to recover 25 Russian nuclear weapons that were stolen by extremists. These bombs were converted into 20 kiloton nuclear weapons which were used to carry out the ironically named "September attacks". Which extremist groups ranging from domestic militia, anarchists, and religious fanatics which never really collaborated together however all of them shared the desire to take down the federal government, pulled off the attacks.

The entire plan was orchestrated by someone with deep resources, an ability to coordinate diverse groups, and by all indications, an American.

The USA was based in Colombis OH wasn't it?
And wouldn't California count as part of the Cheyenne government?
And, Texas was just. . . Texas. . . I thought it was just the state of Texas, not Kansas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma Oo"".

I could be wrong, I never managed to follow ALL the details, but I know that 'EVERYTHING west of the Mississippi' was Cheyenne O__o".

Good pic none the less ^^.
Might try my own, but it'll mean watching all the episodes again X_X.

What of the Mississippi River? I imagined it being patrolled by UN gunboats

Yep, I would imagine so. Though they may not be safe in certain parts. Only to keep whatever flow of goods there is left going; the river would be hotly contested already without another foreign power stepping in.

Well, it's not really mentioned in the show very much, if I remember correctly. But from my own version, probably not too bad. A brief period of anarchy, followed by the UN occupation (as showed on the map).

Phoenix would prove to be a vital city in this new America.

What part does the UN play in all this? How do the other states see them? As an occupying force or as a peacekeeping force? What about the people under their rule?

I imagine it depends on where you stand (those of the Allied States may view them as invaders, while New Mexico/Arizona as peacekeepers), but I'm sure by this time the Americans would welcome any form of order.

My own opinion though would be that they may come late to the game, after having suffered from the sudden fall of the global economy. Because of this (and lingering mistrust of them), there could be some resistance, even if they are the "good guys".

Well being a "good guy" is relative. They could well be seen as invaders and peacekeeping forces could well be seen by the various nations trying to expand as a hinderance. And I'm not so sure Americans especially in the south would appreciate a foreign occupying force. Especially if said peacekeepers were Mexican or Russian troops.
