Kanastia Smanastia by Alt-Reality Kanastia Smanastia by Alt-Reality
In this map of a very different America, things as we know it are very different. The US, a minor power just growing into its shoes, is set on its path by a more influential Jefferson. Because of an altered Articles of Confederation, each state has one vote in the Senate; thus there are smaller states. Also, if you look closely, you can see the border of the former Republic of Tex(j)as, until it was broken up.

The Kingdom of Canada is a break-away British colony which gains independence in the late 1860's, and becomes a power to be reckoned with. Mexico is a democratic, albeit federal, nation, stretching from California to Honduras.

Finally, the Kingdom of Kanastia is a made-up group similar to our time line Mormonism.

Avalon.  Heh.  I actually like that name better than Maine.

Lovely map design! so what is the relationship between the Kingdom of Canada and the UK? Also, how did Canada gain the area from Superior to Caskadia?

Mostly. I generally start with some sore of conglomeration of base maps and work from there. :)

I just saw this, glanced over it briefly, and my eye got caught on "Avalon." My first thought was "Cool! The Calverts' other colony!" My second thought was "Hey, what's it doing there? Shouldn't it be in Newfoundland?" My third thought was "You know, I seriously doubt this person knows or cares about the Lords Baltimore's other (failed) colony. Must be coincidence.

I think part of the beauty of your maps is your use of fonts that so nicely complement the map itself. And this one is no exception.

Thanks for the compliment!

The good thing about these fonts nowadays is that they can be had for free, legally. It really adds a certain charm for some maps.

Wow! The map looks PREFECT! There isn't really anything I find wrong with this, though some of the new names I don't understand their origin. Great work! :D

That's understandable, and what I was going for; something that was familiar, and yet alien at the same time.

Thanks a lot. :)

Nice map. What maps did you build this on? Have been trying to find good maps to build my own alternate history maps.

I would be interested to know the backstory to this.

I use Vectors to create my maps; with this, you can use just about any map you want to. Browse a few tutorials on how to effectively use it, if you have Photoshop.

The learning curve can be kinda steep with it, but don't give up. You can create some neat stuff with it. :)

You mean vector graphics programs unlike raster programs. Okay will try and find some. Thanks.

Hmm, well, I haven't tried those out; like I said, I use the pen tool in Photoshop, though I suppose they could work.

So, it's kinda the stealth inevitable Deseret?
Sneaky. Also, splendid map.
